Re-imagining Identities

As I walk the bone paths of the Sussex Downs, my zazen is a ceaseless marvel at the way the sea bed, the secret holder of bones and all mysterious activities beyond light and air, were pushed out of these cretacean seas and raised up into the sky and global winds. Taking on a new identity, exposed, parched, unable to hold water. All that was lost is visible.

And I wonder if the stones have such new identities, how much more so for humans. How can we loose ourselves from the shackles of identities we have assiduously made for ourselves, or allowed others or society to make and rise, unfettered into new identities and purposes?

In walking, letting my calcanea sink into the layers of chalk, I listen for new names, new ways of being.
